6 Style tips for stopping traffic in street smart coats

Samuel Dong grape wool ruched coatIt’s a jungle out there ladies, but we all seem to find comfort and complacent from the warm comforts of our outerwear.  You expect it to protect you from the elements and also you rely on it to make a good first impression. Outerwear can be expensive so start by focusing on the one that you’ll wear the most. You should be able to to find one that looks suitable styled both as career and evening wear.  1) My favorite coat this season is Samuel Dong’s grape wool ruched 3/4 length style.   Cinch it at the waist, wear it as a coat-dress, use it as a topper, no matter what way you choose, you’ll be stopping traffic in this. 2) Boyish tweeds are everywhere this fall. Choose straight styles or those that are either nippped or belted at the waist, these are more flattery.  3) Colors;  Naturally, neutrals are the most versatile, but if your whole wardrobe is in neutral or black shades, then a coat in a different color, can be a stylish investment. 4) Always make sure you try on coats with a blazer or sweater underneath, this will allow for more movement and less tearing when a coat fits too snug.  5) Today, the rule is your coat does not always have to cover your skirt or dress hem. This leaves you and your sense of proportion to figure out what looks best. 6) A coat should hang evenly and comfortably from your shoulder without feeling heavy or pullling. You should be able to raise your hands over your head without the coat pulling through the back. Style fact: Did you know that the trench was born at the beginning of World War I, when the British army asked Burberry to make a waterproof coat for British soldiers to wear in the trenches.
